Photographing a glass relies mainly on a backlight that will show the form of the glass, by adding reflectors from both sides the light can be changed as wished, these reflectors can be of any color even black as they will cause lines down the glass of the same color.
All extra light must be cut from entering the lens as this may cause flare.
How to photograph a glass on a black background, well it's exactly the same except that you must add a small black background behind the glass, leaving just enough black to extend beyond the glass in all directions.
